Description

The Banded Goby (Amblygobius phalaena) is a peaceful, reef-safe fish that plays an important role in keeping substrates clean through its natural sand-sifting behavior. Its perch-and-watch personality, combined with constant bottom activity, makes it both a practical and entertaining addition to a marine aquarium.

House in a well-established aquarium with fine sand for sifting and plenty of rockwork or caves for hiding. A tight-fitting lid is strongly recommended, as gobies are known jumpers. Best kept singly or as a bonded pair, they should be avoided in setups with aggressive tank mates.

Their diet should be varied and protein-rich, including mysis shrimp, copepods, and enriched brine, along with high-quality pellets to maintain long-term health, vitality, and coloration.
