Description
The Mimic Eibli Tang (Acanthurus tristis) is named for its resemblance to the Centropyge eibli angelfish, which it mimics in appearance during its juvenile stage. It features an oval-shaped body with striking vertical orange lines, a yellow-to-orange underside, and a contrasting black tail. Beyond its beauty, it is a highly effective algae grazer, making it a valuable addition to a marine or reef aquarium.
A 125-gallon or larger aquarium is required to provide ample swimming space. This species can be very aggressive toward other tangs or surgeonfish, especially those of similar shape or coloration, and should typically be the only tang in the tank unless housed in a very large system. If keeping multiple tangs, introduce all species at the same time to reduce territorial disputes.
While the Mimic Eibli Tang will consume some meaty foods along with other fish, it is essential to offer marine-based algae and seaweed as the foundation of its diet. Feeding dried seaweed (such as Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, or Ocean Nutrition) tied to a rock or placed on a veggie clip at least 3 times per week helps boost immunity, reduce aggression, and improve overall health.
The Mimic Eibli Tang is available now at Ocean in a Box, offered at the best price for your reef aquarium.
