The Railway Glider Goby (Valenciennea helsdingenii) is a beautiful and reef-safe species, admired for its distinct markings and active sand-sifting behavior. Constantly on the move, it helps maintain a clean and healthy substrate while adding both color and activity to the lower levels of a marine aquarium.
A spacious, mature aquarium with fine sand for burrowing and plenty of live rock for shelter is recommended. These gobies are best kept singly or as a bonded pair and should be housed with peaceful tank mates. A tight-fitting lid is important, as they are known jumpers.
Their diet should include a variety of small meaty foods, such as mysis shrimp, copepods, and enriched brine, along with high-quality pellets to support health, coloration, and energy. Frequent small feedings are ideal to match their natural grazing habits.
