Description
The Spotted Boxfish (Ostracion meleagris) is a striking and unusual marine species, instantly recognizable by its distinctive spotted pattern and unique box-shaped body. A fascinating addition to larger aquariums, it adds both character and color to the reef environment.
These fish thrive in mature systems of at least 125 gallons, with strong water flow and plenty of open swimming space. Provide live rock for grazing and shelter, and house them only with peaceful tank mates, as Boxfish can be sensitive to stress and aggression.
Their diet should be rich and varied, consisting of marine-based seaweed and algae (nori/spirulina) along with quality herbivore preparations. They will also benefit from meaty supplements such as mysis shrimp or krill. Regular algae feedings help strengthen immunity, reduce stress, and enhance their natural colors.
The Spotted Boxfish is available now at Ocean in a Box, offered at the best price for your reef aquarium.
