Description

The Powder Blue Tang (Acanthurus leucosternon) is one of the most striking surgeonfish, admired for its vivid blue body, black mask, and bright yellow dorsal fin. Active and elegant, it is a constant grazer, helping with algae control while adding vibrant movement and color to reef aquariums.

A large, mature aquarium of at least 125 gallons is recommended, with strong water flow and plenty of open swimming space. Only one tang should be kept per tank unless housed in a very large system and introduced together, as they can become territorial.

Their diet should be rich in marine-based seaweed and algae such as nori and spirulina, supported with quality herbivore preparations. Occasional supplements of mysis shrimp or krill provide additional nutrition. Consistent algae feeding helps strengthen immunity, reduce aggression, and maintain their brilliant coloration.
