The Red Stripe Goby (Amblygobius rainfordi) is a peaceful and reef-safe species, well-regarded for its sand-sifting habits and calm perch-and-watch behavior. It plays a useful role in keeping the substrate clean while adding lively movement and charm to the lower levels of a marine aquarium.
A well-established tank with fine sand for sifting and plenty of hiding spots is ideal. A tight-fitting lid is essential, as gobies are prone to jumping. They are best housed singly or as a bonded pair and should not be kept with aggressive tank mates.
Their diet should consist of a variety of small meaty foods, such as mysis shrimp, copepods, and enriched brine, with high-quality pellets added to support energy, health, and vibrant coloration.
