The Lipstick Tang (Pacific) (Naso lituratus) is a striking surgeonfish, instantly recognizable for its bold facial markings and elegant swimming style. A constant grazer, it plays an important role in algae control while adding both movement and beauty to a reef aquarium.
A large, mature aquarium of at least 125 gallons is recommended, with strong flow and long open swimming areas to suit their active lifestyle. Only one tang should be kept per tank unless housed in a very large system and introduced together to reduce territorial behavior.
Their diet should be heavily plant-based, featuring marine seaweed and algae such as nori or spirulina, complemented with quality herbivore preparations. Occasional supplements of mysis shrimp or krill provide additional nutrition. Regular algae feedings strengthen immunity, reduce aggression, and enhance their vivid coloration.
